When I was in the very beginning years as a wedding photographer I had a prior bride come to me desperate for any extra photos of her dad that hadn't been included in her final gallery. He had suddenly passed away, and she was hoping to remember him from her wedding day. As I frantically searched the whole wedding catalog, I became heartbroken that I couldn't find what she so desperately wanted, pictures of her dad, pictures that really captured him. Like the way he smiled at her when he saw her dance, how he looked when he belly laughed with his family, how he held his grandkids, and the way he cried when she drove away. 

And I missed it. 

I swore that when I captured another wedding, couple, family or person that I would get what everyone misses but longs to remember. The details. The way your fingers gently intertwine, as you walk and talk. The shape your friends take when they squish together for a quick selfie. Tiny chubby hands, clutching you.

Of course it's important to have the perfectly posed, happy smiling group shots or the bold editorial portraits. Those are also important, but the images that tell your story mean everything. Things can change in the blink of an eye, which is why it’s so important to capture moments exactly as they were—real people, surrounded by the ones they really love. 

I've been doing this for a while now, and the number one lesson that has shaped my work as an artist is this; The beauty is in the details.
